Patient Collections Specialist

Reports To: Director of Revenue Cycle Management

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and organized individual to join My Psychiatrist, the fastest growing outpatient behavioral health group in Florida. As a Patient Collections Specialist at My Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health of our practice by managing collections process. You will work collaboratively with the Revenue Cycle Management teams to streamline the revenue cycle, maximizing collections while maintaining a positive patient experience. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be interacting with patients to address billing inquiries and facilitate payment arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collections Management: Implement effective collection strategies to recover outstanding balances, including contacting patients, insurance companies, and resolving any billing discrepancies.
  2. Patient Communication: Engage with patients in a professional and empathetic manner to address billing inquiries, explain charges, and establish payment plans when necessary.
  3. Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance information, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records to facilitate smooth billing processes.
  4. Financial Counseling: Provide guidance to patients regarding insurance coverage, out-of-pocket expenses, and available financial assistance programs.
  5. Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and organized records of patient billing and collections activities, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
  6. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with administrative and clinical teams to streamline processes, address patient concerns, and enhance the overall patient experience.


  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in healthcare administration or related field is a plus.
  2. Must be Bilingual.
  3. Experience: Previous experience in medical billing and collections, preferably in a mental health or healthcare setting.
  4. Skills:
    • Proficient in billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong understanding of medical billing codes, insurance claim processes, and reimbursement procedures.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
