Mark your calendar: NAMIWalks Broward County is happening on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, and My Psychiatrist will be there. This year’s walk lands on a fitting date. October 10 is also World Mental Health Day, and October is Mental Illness Awareness Week and ADHD Awareness Month, making this one of the most meaningful weekends on the entire mental health calendar.

We’ve walked alongside NAMI before, at NAMIWalks Miami and a NAMI Orlando event, and we’re looking forward to doing it again closer to home for a lot of our Broward County patients. Outreach events like this one are a chance to meet families and providers face to face, outside the walls of an office, and to remind our community that support is closer than it might feel on a hard day.

Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about the walk, why events like this matter, and how to join us, whether that means registering for the 5K, cheering on a friend, or simply stopping by to say hello.

About NAMIWalks Broward County

Here’s what to know before the big day:

  • Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026
  • Location: Nova Southeastern University, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd., Davie, FL 33314
  • Registration: 8:00 AM
  • Opening Ceremony: 8:45 AM
  • Walk Begins: 9:15 AM
  • Event Ends: 11:00 AM
  • Routes: A 5K route and a shorter 3K route, so there’s an option for nearly every fitness level

This year’s theme, “Mental Health for All,” reflects what NAMI Broward County does year-round: fund mental health education, programs, and support services for the community. You can register, donate, or learn more directly on NAMI’s official event page.

The 5K and 3K routes wind through the NSU campus, and you don’t need to be an experienced walker or runner to take part. Families, teams from local businesses and treatment providers, and plenty of first-time participants show up every year, which is exactly the point.

Why We’re Walking

Community outreach has been a real, ongoing part of how My Psychiatrist shows up for Florida families, not just inside our offices, but at the events where people already are. Our team has walked with NAMI before, joining NAMIWalks Miami and a NAMI Orlando event earlier this year, and this Broward County walk is a natural next stop, especially with so many patients and providers based right here in Broward County.

Every walk is a chance to put a face to the name for people who may not know where to turn yet, and to stand alongside an organization that spends the rest of the year doing the harder, quieter work of education and advocacy. It’s also just a genuinely good morning: live music, resource tables, kids’ activities, and a few thousand people walking for the same basic reason.

Why Events Like This Matter

None of this replaces clinical care. Walking a 5K doesn’t treat anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder, and it was never meant to. What it does is create visibility, for NAMI’s programs, for the reality that mental illness affects nearly everyone’s life in some way, and for the fact that support is closer and more available than a lot of people realize.

For someone who’s been quietly struggling, seeing an entire community show up on a Saturday morning for something like this can be the nudge that finally makes reaching out feel possible. That’s true whether they walk the 5K themselves or just see the photos afterward.

How to Get Involved

You don’t need to be a NAMI member, a current patient, or an expert on mental health to show up. Here’s how to take part:

  • Register to walk through NAMI’s official event website, individually or as part of a team
  • Donate, even if you can’t attend in person, directly supports NAMI Broward County’s programs and services
  • Join Team My Psychiatrist, look for our team at check-in, or reach out to us beforehand if you’d like to walk with us
  • Just show up, if you’re local, walking up and joining the morning’s events is part of what makes this kind of outreach work
