Behind every appointment scheduled, every partnership formed, and every community event My Psychiatrist shows up to, there’s a team working on community mental health outreach to make care easier to find in the first place. A big part of that work belongs to Lucy Peña, our Business Development Regional Manager, whose job is to build the kind of relationships that connect more Florida families to care, long before anyone picks up the phone to schedule an appointment.
Over the past year, Lucy and the My Psychiatrist team have shown up at conferences, community fairs, awareness walks, hospital openings, and networking events across South and Central Florida. Some of these events connected us with other clinicians and social workers. Others put us face-to-face with families looking for care, or alongside nonprofits advocating for mental health awareness. This article is a look back at that work: the organizations we’ve partnered with, the events we’ve supported, and why community mental health outreach like this matters as much as the care we provide inside our offices.
Meet Lucy Peña: Leading Our Community Outreach
As Business Development Regional Manager, Lucy Peña leads My Psychiatrist’s efforts to build strategic partnerships with healthcare providers, organizations, and community resources across Florida. Her focus areas include expanding access to mental health services through collaborative relationships, developing referral networks that support patient care and outcomes, and representing My Psychiatrist with professionalism, integrity, and compassion at every event she attends.
That work means building relationships with primary care providers, therapists and counselors, hospitals and health systems, community organizations, insurance partners, corporate wellness programs, educational institutions, and treatment centers and rehab facilities. The events below are a snapshot of what that community mental health outreach work looks like in practice.

Community Health Fairs and Neighborhood Outreach
Some of the most direct community outreach happens outside of conference rooms entirely, at neighborhood events where families are already gathered.

Jireh Medical Health Care Community Fair
Our team joined the Jireh Medical Health Care community fair, meeting families face-to-face under the tents to talk about our services and answer questions about accessing psychiatric care locally. Events like this reach people who might not otherwise know what’s available to them nearby.
Behavioral Health Networking and Community Partnerships
Building referral networks also means sitting down regularly with the other organizations doing this work in South Florida.

MDBH Alliance Monthly Networking
Lucy attends the Miami-Dade Behavioral Health (MDBH) Alliance’s monthly networking events, connecting with other local providers, including treatment centers like Beach House Recovery, to strengthen the referral network that helps patients find the right level of care.
Wellness Events for Our Team and Community
This kind of outreach isn’t only external. Some of the most meaningful events happen with the staff and partners we work alongside every day.

Mental Health Awareness Month Presentation at IPMC
For Mental Health Awareness Month, our team led an educational presentation at IPMC, bringing staff together (green ribbons and all, the official color of Mental Health Awareness Month) to talk about mental health, reduce stigma, and share resources.

Mindfulness Day
Our team also marked Mindfulness Day, sharing simple tools and resources for stress management and mental wellness with the community, a reminder that small daily practices can support mental health alongside clinical treatment.
Why Community Mental Health Outreach Matters
None of these events replace the clinical care our psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and therapists provide every day. What they do is make that care easier to find. A conversation at a conference booth can turn into a referral network that gets a patient in the door faster. A walk with NAMI can put our name in front of a family that didn’t know where to start looking for help. A partnership with a treatment center or hospital can mean a smoother handoff for a patient moving between levels of care.
That’s the throughline across everything Lucy and our team do: showing up, building relationships, and expanding community mental health outreach so that Florida families and the professionals who serve them know that My Psychiatrist is here to help.
