Dr. Carlos Cueto is a board-certified psychiatrist providing comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric care in South Miami and throughout South Florida. A Miami native, he is committed to serving the community that shaped him by helping adolescents and adults navigate depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), adjustment disorders, and sleep disorders through personalized, collaborative treatment.

Dr. Cueto believes exceptional psychiatric care is built on trust, transparency, and partnership. He works closely with each patient to develop individualized treatment plans that combine thoughtful psychopharmacology, therapeutic interventions, and education, empowering patients to make informed decisions and take an active role in their mental health.

Journey and Approach to Care

Growing up in Miami gave Dr. Cueto an appreciation for the diversity, resilience, and cultural richness of South Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida International University before completing his Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College. While in medical school, clinical experiences working alongside military veterans and immigrant communities solidified his decision to pursue psychiatry and reinforced his belief that meaningful care begins with understanding the individual behind the diagnosis.

He returned home to complete his psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, where he was selected as Chief Resident and recognized with both the Clinical Excellence Award and Resident of the Year for his leadership, clinical judgment, and commitment to patient care. His residency provided extensive experience treating patients across inpatient psychiatry, outpatient clinics, emergency psychiatry, and partial hospitalization programs, allowing him to care for individuals with a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions.

Dr. Cueto believes psychiatry is most effective when it is collaborative. He values taking the time to understand each patient’s goals, concerns, and circumstances before developing a treatment strategy. His approach integrates evidence-based medication management with psychotherapy principles, practical education, and shared decision-making to help patients build long-term stability and improve overall quality of life.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Cueto serves as a psychiatric sub-investigator in clinical research, contributing to studies exploring innovative treatments for depression, Alzheimer’s disease psychosis, opioid use disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. This work allows him to remain engaged with emerging advances that continue to shape the future of psychiatric care.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Cueto is proud to provide culturally responsive psychiatric care that reflects the needs of South Florida’s diverse communities.
