Nathan Wood, RMHCI, is a compassionate Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern at My Psychiatrist who provides therapy for adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges. He helps clients manage anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, substance use, and psychotic disorders through a collaborative, evidence-based approach.

His Journey and Approach to Care

Nathan’s path to counseling is grounded in both science and compassion. Before becoming a clinician, he worked in research at UC San Diego Health and volunteered at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, where he assisted in administering neuropsychological and behavioral assessments for studies focused on mood and psychotic disorders. At Teachers College, Columbia University, he completed a graduate program with an emphasis in Research Methods, gaining a strong foundation in the interpretation and application of psychological research.

These experiences deepened his appreciation for the complexity of mental health and the importance of using evidence-based treatment approaches in clinical practice.

Transitioning from research to direct clinical work, Nathan found his purpose in helping individuals apply psychological insight to everyday life. He believes that progress begins with authentic connection and that lasting growth happens when clients feel truly seen, heard, and understood. His approach combines structure and flexibility—helping clients explore their experiences, develop resilience, and create meaningful change.

Clinical Focus and Therapeutic Approach

Nathan integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients challenge unhelpful thought patterns, regulate emotions, and build effective coping strategies. He also incorporates mindfulness and values-based interventions to promote balance, purpose, and long-term well-being.

Drawing from his background in psychology and applied research, Nathan approaches each session with curiosity, compassion, and clinical precision—guiding clients toward measurable progress and a greater sense of self-understanding.

Our Patients Love Us

We had a lovely first visit with Dr. Caro! He cares very much, we felt after our visit with him! I felt that there would be some light at the end of our visit, for me as my husband’s caregiver! Thank you to the staff who all we just lovely to us as well!

-Sanford B.

I was especially impressed with the thoroughness of all aspects of my experience with Ventre Medical. Despite the limitations of personal contact due to the pandemic, I never felt that my care was compromised. The staff was attentive in every way, and my experience with Dr. Caro was also thorough, enjoyable and comforting. Yes, 5 stars

I am always welcomed and treated professionally by all the staff. I want to say that if the staff becomes overwhelmed Dr. Joubert will come out and call me himself. It nice to see that they work as a team Doctors and Staff. It’s a real pleasure to visit this office everyone has a smile and in constant camaraderie thank you this was a great day.
