Dr. Nelson Cordero-Torres, MD, is a compassionate Board-Certified Psychiatrist at My Psychiatrist. Born and raised in Moca, Puerto Rico, Dr. Cordero brings a rich cultural perspective to his practice, deeply understanding the unique challenges faced by individuals from diverse backgrounds.
He specializes in addiction medicine, depression, anxiety, and has significant experience treating adults with co-occurring disorders. With extensive acute inpatient and office experience, Dr. Cordero is passionate about helping patients live their lives to the fullest.
His Journey and Approach to Care
Dr. Cordero began his medical journey at the University of Puerto Rico, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He continued his medical studies at the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree.
During his training, Dr. Cordero participated in research studies at both Rutgers University in New Jersey and Columbia University’s New York State Psychiatric Institute, gaining valuable insights into psychiatric research and treatment. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and became a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Cordero has served as Chief of Psychiatry at Broward Health Medical Center since June 2019 and as Vice Chair of Psychiatry at Broward Health Imperial Point since January 2019. His approach to care is patient-centered and empathetic, focusing on understanding each individual’s unique needs and tailoring treatment plans accordingly.
