Cristina Valentín-Rivera, M.D. was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She got her medical degree in the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and is now completing the third year of her psychiatry residency at Broward Health Psychiatry Residency.
Dr. Valentín’s interests include psychotherapy, medical education, and addressing health disparities. Through her involvement in the Latino Medical Student Association, Dr. Valentín focused on healthcare disparities, advocated for medical schools to address the needs of underserved populations, and helped her fellow medical students develop as leaders and advocates for disadvantaged populations. Dr. Valentín hoped to practice residency in a program that would allow her to serve diverse communities and was thus delighted to join Broward Health Psychiatry Residency Program. During residency, Dr. Valentín was awarded the APA Foundation Community Diversity Fellowship, for residents who are committed to serving minority and vulnerable populations.
